In short: this app collects no personal information — not your name, phone number, email or location. No account, no login, no tracking, no ad networks, no analytics. The app downloads new issues from statejournalist.com and checks for app updates; both are explained in section 5.
No personal information. The State Journalist app does not collect your name, phone number, email address, location or advertising ID. The single exception is a random installation code sent when the app checks for updates (see section 5).

A small amount of information is stored locally on your phone. It never leaves the device and we cannot see it:
Uninstalling the app removes all of it.
Notifications are scheduled entirely on your device. They are not push notifications. We operate no server, we hold no device token, and we have no technical means of sending anything to your phone. Case headlines come from the app itself or from the issue list published on statejournalist.com, and your phone displays them on the schedule you choose.
On Android 13 and later you will be asked for notification permission. You may decline; everything else in the app continues to work.
The app requests exactly one permission: notifications. It does not request camera, microphone, location, contacts or file storage access. These are explicitly blocked in the app's configuration so they cannot be introduced accidentally by a future dependency.

As with any web server, our hosting provider may record standard server logs (IP address and timestamp) when a PDF is fetched. This is ordinary web hosting behaviour and we do not use those logs to identify individuals.
The helpline form is neither anonymous nor encrypted.
Information you send through it — your name, phone number, district and message — goes directly to the newsroom and is visible to newsroom staff. It is an ordinary web form and it does not conceal your identity.
Please consider your safety before sending anything that could put you at risk. This is not an emergency service — in an emergency call 100 / 112.
Information you send us voluntarily is used for journalistic purposes only. We protect our sources to the fullest extent the law allows.
This app is not directed at children. It publishes reporting on crime, corruption and deaths. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13 — we do not collect it from anyone.
We hold no data about you, so there is nothing to request deletion of. Uninstalling the app removes the settings held on your device. If you have contacted us through the helpline and would like that message deleted, write to statejournalist@gmail.com.
If this policy changes we will publish the revised version here with a new date. Should the app ever begin collecting information, that change will be disclosed clearly in an app update.
